Gloria Miller Allen - AWS
Watercolors and Workshops
I've lived in Idaho for nearly 40 years, though I spent my childhood in the Mid-West.   My first job was in the Litho Art Department of Hallmark Cards headquartered in Kansas City.  I was 18 years old, and I learned an incredible amount about color and value contrasts in painting.  After marriage, my husband and I moved to Corvallis, OR for his graduate program.  After his PhD in Chemestry, Physics and Math, we moved our family of five to East Brunswick, New Jersey for about 5 years - then we moved to Idaho.  I have painted all my life, but out west it became more of a passion.  So from Mid-America and from Coast to Coast I have enjoyed and struggled with paint.
My husband and I flew to New York City in April of 2006 to receive my signature membership in the American Watercolor Society (AWS).  That was a life-time goal.

I also have earned signature membership in the Transparent Watercolor Society of America (TWSA); Watercolor West (WW); and the Northwest Watercolor Society.
I've not had college training in art, but have had the privilege of taking workshops from great American Watercolorists (most of whom are in the AWS). I have painted thousands of paintings and knew that library books were gentle and knowledgeable teachers. My drawing-board has been my classroom, and the image of a perpetual student suits me just fine.  Thousands of paintings become un-purchasable knowledge.  I'm grateful my life has allowed me to explore the world of watercolors in particular, and art in general. It helps me see and acknowledge the awesomeness of this planet, my surroundings, and my life. It helps me make tangible what is intangible within.
